Tinsel is gone and health is on!

So it’s time to take down the Christmas tree and the sparkly lights. Now that the tinsel is gone, enjoying those mince pies and choccies just doesn’t feel as justified, does it! Oh, the annoyance of January resolutions. If you, like me, have thoroughly enjoyed the rich indulgence of Christmas food, you may feel the need for a bit of a detox. Here are a few hints on helping your body regain some vitality.

Firstly, let go of those guilty feelings! It is good for the heart to be gathered around the table with favourite people, talking and laughing while enjoying good food and a glass (or bottle) of champers. Instead, be kind to your body. In three words: exercise, water, and Milkthistle.

Exercise: Stop grumbling, it’s not a bad word. Your body will love you for it. Make use of the summer evenings by walking. Cardio-lovers, rise with the sun and start the day pumped with that healthy feeling you get after a good workout. Exercise is vital for overall health and organ function, not to mention the benefits of stress relief and mood regulation.

Water: This summer we’re starting conversations with ‘can you believe how hot it is!’ Now is the time to double your water intake. Among its many benefits, water oxygenates the body and regulates blood pressure, thereby increasing energy levels. Prevent that sluggish heaviness with a few extra glasses of crystal clear goodness.

Milkthistle: This is a go-to herb for liver health. Its anti-inflammatory, anti-oxidant and hepatoprotective properties promote the overall health of liver cells and help remove toxins. If you’ve had too much of Granny’s Christmas pud made the old-fashioned way, or kept tabs on ‘wine-o’clock’, it may be beneficial to treat your liver to Milkthistle for a month. It comes in capsule or tincture form and can be found at your local health store or Homeopath.

Pack away the Christmas memories with a happy heart this year and aim for a 2020 of good health.
